Redcar and Cleveland's only selective licensing designation has EXPIRED. The council's own housing standards page states: "South Bank was designated for Selective Licensing in 2018. The designation will have effect until 24 March 2024 unless it is revoked by the Council before then." The scheme was approved by Cabinet in October 2015, came into force 28 October 2015 at a £450 licence fee for a five-year term, and the successor designation ended 24 March 2024. the council's separate application subdomain selectivelicensing.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk still says the designation "currently affects" South Bank; that page is stale and the dated instrument beats it. Renewed interest reported in 2024 is a proposal only. Established 21 Aug 2026.
Evidenced negative by enumeration (first-party research 19 Aug 2026): no page on the council domain references an s.56 additional HMO designation. The council HMO page publishes a banded mandatory fee and states the licence is "valid for a maximum of five years", with fees "HMOs with up to and including: 4 lets - £600; 6 lets - £650; 8 lets - £700; 10 lets - £750; HMOs with more than 10 lets - £750 plus £10 per additional let", plus fit and proper checks at £30 each for licence holder and manager and an optional named-officer assistance fee of £50. This is separate from the disputed South Bank selective position recorded on this row. Distinct from Middlesbrough, Stockton-on-Tees and the abolished Cleveland County.
